🛠 アンティーク家具の修復と絵付け｜風神雷神を描いた扉のリペア

今日は、少し緊張しながらもとてもやりがいを感じた、**アンティーク家具の修復（リペア）**についてご紹介します。

今回のご依頼は、長年大切に使われてきた家具の扉部分に、絵を描いて修復してほしいというものでした。扉はしっかりした作りで、木の質感もとても味わい深く、まさに一生ものの家具。

お客さまのご希望は、「風神雷神を描いてほしい」とのこと。

和のモチーフとしても人気があり、力強さと静けさが共存する神々です。

素材が木ということもあり、まずは和紙を貼って下地を整え、その上から着彩しました。色使いは、元の家具の雰囲気に調和するように、落ち着いたトーンでまとめています。派手すぎず、でもしっかり存在感のある仕上がりになったと思います。

家具の修復というと「壊れたところを直す」というイメージが強いかもしれませんが、

こうした絵付けによるリペアでは、家具に新しい物語を加えることができるのです。

古い家具を捨てるのではなく、丁寧に手を加えて、もう一度暮らしの中で生かす。

そのお手伝いができたことを、とても嬉しく思っています。

🛠 Restoring Antique Furniture with Art: A Hand-Painted Door Featuring Fujin and Raijin

Today, I’d love to share a restoration project that was both nerve-wracking and incredibly rewarding.

This time, the request was to restore the doors of a treasured antique piece of furniture—not just by fixing damage, but by adding hand-painted artwork. The structure of the cabinet was beautifully crafted, and it clearly had been cherished over many years.

The client asked for a depiction of Fujin and Raijin, the Japanese gods of wind and thunder. These powerful deities are rich in meaning, representing both strength and natural forces.

Since the surface was made of wood, I first applied traditional washi paper to create a painting base, and then added color. I chose tones that would blend well with the antique aesthetic of the furniture—nothing too flashy, but enough to make a subtle, striking impression.

When we talk about furniture repair, we often think of fixing something broken.

But with artistic restoration, we get to add a new story to an old piece.

Rather than throwing away old furniture, this approach lets us breathe new life into beloved items. It was a real honor to be a part of that process.
